November 2023 Meeting Recap

The fall in-person meeting of the Northwood Neighborhood Association was held at the Milwood Library on November 13, 2023. The following items were on the meeting agenda:


  1. Minutes from the June 2023 meeting which were published on the neighborhood website were put forth and approved.

  2. Election of officers - the current officers (excluding the Vice President) volunteered for another year and were unanimously re-elected by those present for the 2024 year. The Vice President did not chose to run another year and that position will be voted on in the next meeting in the spring. Officers for 2024 are:

    1. Thomas Greer - president

    2. Michael Conwell - treasurer

    3. Marilyn Galvan - secretary

  3. Treasurer's report -

    1. reported the current balance

    2. Current dues are $25 for the year payable on the website using PayPal or by mail

    3. Renewal is set for January - it was suggested that the association hold a membership drive in January

  4. Reviewed notification of neighborhood information to residents

    1. The neighborhood does no longer has a paper newsletter

    2. Information will be distributed using the Northwood Neighborhood Association website, Facebook groups, and email when an email is provided

  5. Followup on government relations:

    1. Pocket Park - no new information from the city following the initial inquiry with the city in June 2023

      1. The association be working with neighbors once Austin parks responds to the initial application.

    2. Mopac - Oak Creek Bypass lane (rail) - no new information

      1. No new information to share - the association will share information as additional information is received.

  6. Ed English was a guest speaker on the proposed land development rules that the City of Austin city council will vote on.

    1. Ed presented the same information for the Milwood Neighborhood Association and suggested that all go to the Milwood Association website for links for additional information and protest

    2. Reviewed what can be built on single family lots

    3. The proposed development plans will be done in two phases

      1. November 14 is a city hall planning commission meeting

      2. First phase will be a council vote on December 7

      3. Second phase will be sometime in the spring.

    4. Reviewed how residents can protest the City Council proposals
